travelling from u.k. to denver-nevada
 

We are considerting travelling to vegas, palm springs, driving to phoenix to visit relatives then driving on to denver via Cortez, Durango, Montrose etc.
As we will be in Vegas around September 16th and the Rockies around 30th September, can anyone let me know if they thing a reverse trip would be better due to heat in vegas and possible cold in the Rockies.

I'm presuming what you're asking is whether it would be better to start in Vegas on the 16th and end up in Denver on the 30th, or to be in Denver on the 16th and end up in Vegas on the 30th. Your question is whether the latter route would reduce the odds of winter weather in the Rockies or excess heat at Vegas. If this is NOT what you are asking, ignore the following advice and accept my apologies.

ANYWAY, it is very unlikely that the two week change would make any difference in the weather at either place. The odds of a winter storm in the Rockies on the 29th are about the same as a storm on the 17th -- and, in both case, VERY small. It might be cooler in Vegas on the 30th than on the 16th; but it is more likely to be about the same.

Basically, weather considerations for choosing one route over another are pretty miniscule.

I have lived in both places and I agree with the previous poster. Barring some abnormal storm, it won't make any difference. In fact it's likely to be fairly hot in Colorado too, except at very high elevations.

Although I agree with the above posters I would be inclined to do the trip in reverse if there is no other reason not to. The odds of a snowstorm do increase some small amount the later it gets and it may cool off slightly in Vegas by the end of the month. I agree major weather changes cannot be predicted in a two week period but everything else being equal, switching the trip can't help but slightly improve your odds of good weather.

Either way, you've picked a great time to be in both of those areas. What a good contrast too, from the glitz of Las Vegas to the outdoorsy natural beauty on the way to Denver. A great itinerary.
