Traveling with Pets- US/Canada Border Patrol

Hi-
This summer, my family plans on driving to Maine (staying in Edgecomb)for a week.We live in Michigan, and are planning on driving through Canada. We planned on bringing our dog with us, but I am having difficulty finding any information on restrictions on traveling with a pet through Canada.

Has anyone had experience doing this? Is it ok to do (I don't want her to end up in quarantine or something). Does anyone have any online resource that would help with this?

Thanks,
Erin

We live in Seattle and go up to BC with friends and their dogs every year for a ski trip. Our friends say that you have to have your pets vacination papers with you in case they ask for them. That's it!

We go across the border frequently-we always have our dogs's license and vaccination certificates from our vet (I pretty sure it's rabies cert they are actually looking for but i bring the receipt that shows all of his annual shots). If you want an official cite, I'm sure if you do a US gov search and look for borders or customs you'll come up with an official site

My dog does business trips with me to Vancouver all the time -- no problem.

My husband takes our dog to Canada every fall for duck hunting. You need to get a certificate of health from your vet-it's one of those official, triplicate forms. Canada does not recognize 3 year rabies vaccines, so your dog may need a vaccination. Also, this form needs to be filled out by the vet no more than 7 days before you cross the border. (The border patrol has asked to see this paper only twice in 12 years.)
