Traveling with a 1 year old

Hi! We are planning our first vacation in July with our 1 year old. I am looking for suggestions on locations within a 6 hour drive of Chicago. We love the outdoors as well as museums and zoos. If you have had a positive experience with your little one, or if there is a destination you would stay away from please share. Thanks so much! Happy traveling! ( well this isn't our first vacation....we went to Europe when baby was 4 Mo old....but being 1 is so different!).
Thanks!

I was at the Minnesota Zoo many years ago. It sounds like it may be even better now. http://www.mnzoo.com/planVisit/planVisit_planDay.asp

Milwaukee - of course the Milwaukee Zoo - but also the Betty Brinn museum downtown http://www.bbcmkids.org/

My granddaughters love the Milwaukee Zoo and the Betty Brinn Children's Museum--but the one year old doesn't much care about anything besides being with people she knows and keeping to her routine.

Indianapolis has a great Children's Museum.
