Has anyone here traveled to Vegas for the primary purpose of looking at real estate? Is it still affordable in comparison to other cities like SF and NYC?

Anyplace is affordable compared to SF and NYC. I would suggest you contact a realtor in Vegas and get some info so you can decide for yourself what you can/cannot afford or if you would want to actually live there.

We looked online only over the summer, and it's affordable in relation to SF and NYC, but around 250k minimum for a reasonably sized house. The only housing we found under 200k were small condos and trailers.

You really need to spend some time there in the midst of the hot, hot, summer and cold, windy winter before you decide that you want to buy there. It has problems.
