Traveling to Newport, RI from Boston and then to NYC

Hi - I was originally supposed to use a rental car to get from Boston to Newport RI and then to Brooklyn NY, but can no longer use one. Can you please tell me the best (not too expensive and quick) way to do this? Also, will it be a big problem not having a car in Newport? Any advice is appreciated. My plans have just changed...I'm traveling to Newport on Saturday and will be traveling to Brooklyn on Tuesday.

Thanks!

No, you do not need a car in Newport. There are trolleys and walking available in town. Where are you staying?

Your best bet to get to Newport from Boston without a car would be by bus: www.peterpanbus.com

You could also take the bus from Newport to NYC. Or take a RIPTA bus or taxi or shuttle van out to the Kingston Station and take the Amtrak train to NYC. You might also check on Craigslist to see if anybody is driving to NYC on Tuesday....Newport has a lot of people from NYC area in the summer.

Do you know how long it takes to get to Kingston Station via taxi or shuttle? Is Cozy Cab pretty much the only option or can I just check the Yellow Pages for other cab or shuttle options?

About 25 minutes...Cozy Cab seems to be the one I always hear about, but you could check Rainbow Cab or Orange Cab. There is also the RIPTA Bus #64 Newport to URI which would be much cheaper, but take a little longer: http://www.ripta.com/schedules/view....64&direction=2
