traveling to Florida and Alabama

Hello, We are a couple in our 60's and visiting the Tampa area in Feb. then we plan on going to Dothan, Al to visit our niece. In between time we'd like to spend a week on the beach somewhere inbetween Tampa and Dothan. Any ideas? We just want to relax, sit on the beach, read and go out to dinner, perhaps walk around quaint towns. Bed and Breakfasts are good and other accommodations will do also. Any help anyone can give us would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Caylins Granny

South of Tallahassee you'll find the Apalachiola National Forest which has cities like East Point and Carrabelle right on the beach

Apalachicola is a great place to visit. The beach at Cape San Blass is outstanding. Apalachicola is a neat town. Enjoy your trip.

Kathleen, we have spent 3 winters on Cape San Blas and do love it. We rent a house so have never stayed in this B&B but have driven pass and it looks wonderful, also, starrs from Fodors recommends it. http://www.turtlebeachinn.com/ It is located in Indian Pass which is right beside the Cape and has the same white soft sand and isolation. Indian Pass Raw Bar is within minutes of this B&B and they are known for oysters (raw and baked) and shrimp. They are located in a converted gas station! Also, I can recommend restaurants in Apalachicola if you are interested which is about 25min from Indian Pass. It is a very walkable small town and fun to shop. In the other direction is Port St Joe, about 15min from Indian Pass and one of our favorite restaurants is Sunset Grill http://www.sunsetcoastalgrill.com/ Let me know if you want any more info!
