Traveling Alone
 

Hello. I am woman looking for some advice on traveling alone in Florida. I am looking for peace and quite on the beach, good seafood (well, just good food period!) and a place that would be safe for me to be. I have only been to the Destin/Panama City Beach area so somewhere 'new' would be great. I will be traveling around Sept 27 for 3 nights. Please help!!

Suggest Clearwater Beach in Florida. Have stayed at Hilton Clearwater, a family hotel located on a nice white sand beach with private pool and jacuzzi and walking distance to harbor (seafood dinner cruise) and some restaurants. http://www.clearwaterbeachresort.com/
Many other hotels nearby in Sand Key also worth considering if you are willing to drive to restaurants. Hope this helps! :S-

I travel alone a lot (by choice) and I stayed at Clearwater Beach--Best Western, Felt very safe and room was very nice with microwave and refrig. with great view of gulf area. The motelwas right on the beach.
I am not sure about the seafood restaurants as I took daytime excursions, to Tarpon Springs & St. Petes to Dali museum.
I also heard good things about the Hilton-also on the beach..
If you are looking for a relaxing area this is it...

The options are endless. If you want to try the east coast of Fla., look at Singer Island. Most of the big chains like Holiday Inn, Hilton, Marriott have hotels there. It's a quiet area despite the hotels, with a great beach. It's also within an easy drive to West Palm Beach if you want more activity. The only warning is many of these hotels have been renovating so make sure to check on that.

Delray Beach is also a good choice on the east coast (the Marriott there is excellent). It's a good place to be without a car because there's a thriving downtown with lots of restaurants you can walk to.

If you're willing to forego a good beach for a pool, I strongly recommend Key West. It's a walking person's paradise, with lots of great restaurants and tourist activities all clumped together in Old Town. Crime is virtually non-existent, especially in touristy areas.

As a 31 year old female, I just spent 5 days solo in Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale by the Sea. I would recomment it. With a rental car, you can take day excursions. While on the beach, I was able to leave my belongings on the beach while I swam with no problems (though I always kept an eye on them) and I met people as I would eat dinner at local restaurants (always eat while sitting at the bar if you want to meet people).

just another tip about traveling alone. I liked the suggestion about eating at the bar if you want to meet people. Another one, if you eat at a sit down restaurant with no bar, is to tell the maitre d' that you are a woman alone and if any other woman wants company for dinner, you would be open to this (if you are). Could be a great way to meet a new friend. Or could be a nightmare, I guess, on the flip side. But it's only dinner. If you feel uncomfortable eating alone, this is an option. Also, if you don't want to eat with anyone else, bring a good book.

Thanks again guys..I think I have settled on Key West and found a good deal at the Holiday Inn Beachside (since I am budgeting) on CheapCaribbean.com. Has anyone ever booked a trip on this website?
