Travel insurance: a caution about airline coverage.
 

Hi All,
I was looking at insuremytrip.com today. Great site! But, be sure that any company you are considering covers the airline on which you will be flying. On insuremytrip.com, waaaay at the bottom of each insurance company's listing, is this heading: Additional Notes. That's where I discovered that my tickets on Delta will NOT be covered. Delta is in bankruptcy. I would have gone with a different airline had I known.

TravelGuard is no better. I'm extremely disappointed with them. I purchased trip insurance on 8/3 for an upcoming trip, and when I learned Northwest Flight Attendants might be striking, I called to find out what I would need to do "just in case", and was told I wouldn't be covered AT ALL if the trip was delayed or cancelled due to them striking, because "the union voted to possibly strike on 7/5". How was I supposed to know that? Now, Travelguard has a "strike list" on their website, and I reviewed that before I bought the insurance, and NW is not listed, nor is it listed now.

I think its very misleading of them, and I will never use TravelGuard again. :?

After this I called Access America, which is who you buy insurance through if you go thru the Northwest website, and they told me if the trip was delayed or cancelled due to them striking, and I bought a policy thru Access America, I wouldn't be covered because "the union voted to possibly strike on 8/1".

I don't know who is right... 7/5 or 8/1. But either one is before I bought the insurance.

In my case age is a factor. I will be traveling with my 85 year young mother. While the lack of flight cancelation insurance is disappointing, the medical coverage, especially emergency evacuation, is more of a concern. I'm going to select the company that gives me the best medical coverage at the best price. This has definitely been a lesson learned for me. I hope lots of other people read this thread and are saved from making a mistake.

Few travel policies will cover labor disturbances. Sad but true.
