My wife and I (seniors) would like to travel our own country for a change!we have never traveled west to all the major parks or attractions,(grand canyon,yellowstone,et.)and would like any info as to what you all may think is a must see and the best way to see it,we are from upstate NY and are open to all forms of transport (air,rail,rental rv etc) we plan on taking a month or so in the good weather,June thru Sept 07. any and all suggestions would be apprec.

I would choose between two basic plans -- either the Pacific Coast (California to Seattle) or the Utah Parks, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands, etc.

My personal choice for a month trip would probably be to fly to somewhere like Las Vegas (because flights are cheap to there) and then rent a car and do a month long circle. I'd opt for June rather than July or August for smaller crowds.

You might want to check out a couple of Tauck coach tours. You can do one and then stay on and do some sightseeing on your own. We have taken their canyonland tour and really enjoyed having them take care of all the details. It might also give you some ideas of how to structure your own trip.

We were absolutely blown away by the scenery in Colorado between Ouray and Silverton. I think it is called the Million Dollar Highway. In our many travels, it was probably one of the most spectacular sights we have seen.

I second LvSun's idea! Come out here to SW and see amazing scenery, wonderful sunny & dry weather, amazing historical sites, local/native crafts.

Think about: Ouray, Telluride, Durango, Santa Fe, Taos, Albuquerque.

I agree with LVSun re the Million Dollar Highway. Definitely one of the scariest and most beautiful drives I've ever taken!

If you drive into Yellowstone, be sure to drive in on the Beartooth Highway from Montana - one of the most spectacular drives in the world.
