Travel from Toronto to New York City

Group of ladies want to do a 3 - 4 day trip to New York City. My research on Google isn't helping me. We would like to travel by train, bus or plane, and stay in Manhattan. I just need some direction on researching this.
Thanks so much.

Train or bus is going to be interminable - as in 10 hours plus each way. Have a look at kayak.com to see what the options are for flights.

There are lots of flight options

AA flies about a dozen flights a day to LGA or JFK airports
Air Canada about 20 to LGA or Newark
Continental 8 a day to Newark
Delta a handful to JFK.

All things being equal I'd choose LGA for a trip to Manhattan, but if you got a better deal to Newark or JFK either of those will work fine as well.

You could drive to Buffalo/Niagara airport for some cheaper flights and complete customs at the US border...

There's a lot more competition on the Toronto-NY route than there is from Buffalo, so I would not expect prices to be cheaper.

I don't think passing through US immigration and customs at Toronto is terribly difficult - land crossings may take even longer.

Thanks all. I'm sorry to sound so clueless, but how hard is it to get to the "city" from the airport in New York?

It depends on which airport you plan to use.

LGA is closest to Manhattan, and for a group of ladies (4 people or less) the best way is just to hop in a cab. Expect to pay about $45 all totaled.

JFK is a little farther away, and is served by several rail options which can either be ok or painfully slow depending on your final destination. The cab fare from JFK is fixed ($45 i think), + tips & tolls expect to pay about $60 for up to 4 people.

Newark is in NJ and thus not served by NYC taxis. You could get a car service to take you to Manhattan, or connect by air train to the RR to take you into the city.

It's usually a lot cheaper from Buffalo, NY than it is from Toronto.

Porter airlines is an option from Toronto from the city airport to our Newark (EWR) airport.

It's fairly simple to get from JFK, LGA or EWR airport into Manhattan. Find flights you like from your end at a price and hour that suits you.
