Travel from Quebec City to NYC

Getting off cruise ship in Quebec City late September and have about 4 days to get to NYC airport for trip home. What would be some recommended travel, sight seeing, things to do, any suggestions?

Montreal, Lake Placid, Albany, Hudson Valley, NYC.

Did you decide against going to Niagara Falls or did you simply not like the answer you got on your other thread?

There's really lots of places you can stop for a visit - it all spends on what type of "things" you like to see and do.

How about spending a couple of days in Kennebunkport, Maine or touring Boston or perhaps Mystic, Connecticut?

Have you thought about visiting one of the Finger Lakes in upstate NY?

Or stopping in quaint villages in Vermont or New Hampshire?

The list is endless.

Why do you take a look at Google Maps or Mapquest and plot out various routes between Quebec City and NYC? The map will show you lots of points of interest and/or areas you might want to visit. You can use the"Directions" option to plan out a basic route then use the "click & drag" feature to alter the route to get driving times to various towns, cities & points of interest between your starting and stopping points.

Yes pretty much negated Niagara Falls on this trip, since we are there at this time of year, leaf peeping maybe the most opportune thing to do.

The falls will be on a future trip

If you are driving, I'd recommend I-91, which will take you down through Sherbrooke, Vermont, New Hampshire, and the Berkshires of Massachusetts. But you could also come down I-87 through the Lake George and the Hudson Valley. There's a lot to see on either route.

But it would be a very long detour to go through either Maine or the Finger Lakes. While both are beautiful, there's so much to see on the direct routes, especially if you aren't familiar with the area, that it seems hardly worth the extra driving.

Your main question is if you want to make a short detour to drive through NY State, or if you'd rather have a more direct route down through Vermont, New Hampshire, western Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
