Travel from New York State to Florida
Hi there I am trying to find the best route by car that you have experienced when travelling from Upper New York State (Watertown) to Orlando. I have tried many via Hagerstown to the 270 and want to avoid Washington traffic and then head south on the 95. Your experiences are welcome and of course as I am travelling in March snow storms are a major consideration and have hit many on the 66 and the 64 which was not delightful! Thanks again

How long do you have for your trip ?? Its 1300 miles which is the better part of 20+ hours. Use Mapquest to plot. Could you fly ??
Might be cheaper and a heck of a lot less time when you consider cost of gas, etc.

did you look into Amtrak car train option?

I was thinking of the Auto Train as well. It's an overnight trip from Lorton VA (near DC) to Sanford FL (near Orlando) so most of the trip is done while you sleep.

We also like to avoid 95 if we can. One trip to Fla. we took 81 all the way to 77 south of Roanoke then picked up 26 outside of Columbia, SC. which runs into 95. I think it added 100 miles to the trip from CT, but you can easily get hung up more than 100 minutes in traffic on 95 especially in the NJ to Richmond stretch. It was high way all the way and if you want a diversion, get off 81 and go down Skyline Drive a way.

I agree with emalloy. 81 to 77 to 26 with the Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway option works pretty well.
