Travel Channel's - Top Ten Florida Beaches

Just finished watching the program tonight and here are the top 10 Florida beaches as picked by the producers of the program:

1)?Can you guess?
2)Siesta Key Beach (my favorite :-) )
3)Palm Beach
4)Lover's Key Beach / Ft.Myers area
5)Clearwater Beach
6)Smather's Beach / Key West
7)Sandspur Beach / Bahia Honda / Florida Keys
8)Panama City Beach
9)Sanibel Beach
10)Daytona Beach

Any missing beaches?
Do you see the list differently?
Any comments?

Just for fun, I won't post the #1 beach for a day or so. Anyway, this is according to Travel Channel only, it's not written in stone.

Any guesses?

Key West or Miami

hugglynn Aug 11th, 2004 04:57 PM

My guess would be South Beach--it's always on those lists.

Key West? Oops...all the beaches in the keys are man-made and most are tiny.

Caladesi Island

Tandoori_Girl Aug 11th, 2004 05:36 PM

Did you know Caladesi was formed from a hurricane? And that it looks like a chicken leg?

bluestructure Aug 11th, 2004 05:43 PM

Destin beach??

hibiscushouse Aug 11th, 2004 05:47 PM

Yep, Caladesi from Honeymoon Island as well. As well as the old pass at the north end of Clearwater Beach, although it's recently been filled in naturally. (after all these years)
Didn't know Caladesi looked like a chicken leg though.

Lover's Key Beach is #4?? I say, up some, Lover's Key is a state park-too isolated and deadsville! Move just a bit northwards up the beach-not far-towards Gull Wing Resort/Junkanoo's -and you have a beach within the top 3 in Fla., most definitely!

It's a slam dunk...Delray Beach is the
hottest town in the state!!

martinewezel Aug 11th, 2004 11:30 PM

I loved Ft. Zach beach in Key West. 6 $ fee/car. My family and I had all the beach only for us :-)

GoTravel Aug 12th, 2004 05:40 AM

lawsy that was stupid. The Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood beaches are much nicer than Daytona and Melbourne was left completely off the list.

South Beach was the number one beach.

Blacktie Aug 12th, 2004 06:14 AM

Wooo, Clearwater Beach? What beach! South Beach? Did they get extra points for all the glass, refuse in the sand? Treasure Island excluded? Some fab survey you've got there, lol.

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2004 09:01 AM

My guess: let's wait till after the hurricanes!

AAFrequentFlyer Aug 12th, 2004 10:21 AM

New beaches will be created sometime tomorrow. It was South Beach.

I have till midnight tonight to decide if I'm running or staying.

Any expert advice.

As the song goes: Should I stay or should I go?

AAFF,
Yes, and at taxpayer and insurance premium payer expense.

mikemo,

Ok, so you never received a penny from the government or your insurance company?

I don't get it, what's your point?

Shanna Aug 13th, 2004 06:14 AM

Hi, I don't post to the US site very often, but I know the greatest beach in Florida AND I'M NOT TELLING!!! Few people, clear water, no noise or obnoxious goings-on. It will never make the list because there are no big hotels, restaurants or bars sitting on the beach - just sun, sand, surf, sea. Ah, paradise!

Spygirl Aug 13th, 2004 06:22 AM

You can have those Atlantic-side beaches-I'll take Gulf Coast ANY DAY-you simply can't get the white powder sand and those incomparable Gulf sunsets on the other side.

BuffaloGirl Aug 13th, 2004 05:50 PM

If you spent just one winter in Buffalo, you would think every beach in Florida deserved to be on the top 10 list. There isn't a beach in Florida I haven't liked!!!

Actually, for years I visited the east coast of Florida, having never visited the west coast. Then, about 9 years ago we started making a yearly trip to Sanibel (due to free use of a condo - I hope it's still there). But once or twice we veered off our course and spent our vacation on the east coast because we missed the Atlantic!

I'll take any Florida beach in March!
