Travel Channel--Hawaii Shows This Week

Someone at the Travel Channel must be reading the Fodor forum! There are less poker shows on this week and Vegas programming!!!

I actually found two programs yesterday on HI on the Travel Channel as we leave for HI this Thursday. "World's Best " had one on the National Parks (volcano related) on Maui and the BI (Secrets of Hawaii's National Parks-will air again on Thursday at 7:00 PM on "World's Best"). It was quite good and informative.

Then an hour after that went off another show called "Hawaii FAQ" which was also quite good. Both were current, 2004-05, I think from what my channel guide said, anyway. I learned about "Spam Jam". I had no idea of the Hawaiin facination with Spam, yuck!

At 11:30 this morning "Great Hotels" has a show on Kona Village Resort/W. Honolulu. "Vacation Challenge" will be on Thursday at 12:30 pm with a show called "Island Hopping". I will miss it as I will already be "hopping" to Maui.

January 31 @ 10 a.m., you can see Top 10 Hawaiian Beaches (may be the old one, not sure). "Great Hotels" at 3:00 PM: Four Seasons Hualalai

In normal times the most we could count on, on this channel was perhaps one travel related program out of 5, this was quite a pleasant surprise, as well as, some good progams.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the heads up on those shows. Sure beats the poker tournament crud.

There's nothing wrong with spam. I had a lot of that when I was a kid. Haven't had much lately however. It's a great food to have on hand when there's a power outage or some sort of emergency or even for camping. It's meat that doesn't need refrigeration.

One thing it's not is gourmet.

I ate a lot of spam growing up myself, just never culitvated a love for Spam, heck, not even a like for it. My "granny" used to say that whatever was left over from cows and pigs parts at the "slaughterhouse" went into making Spam. I doubt that's true, but it left a lasting impression on me all of my life.

On the "Spam Jam" segment they made it look gourment, believe it or not. It seems all of the major chefs on the island participate and have their gourmet way with Spam. Who'da thunk it?

I'm thoroughly amused by the inclusion of spam in gourmet delicacies on the islands. I look forward to enjoying some of that when I'm there next summer.

I'm not so sure my kids will share my willingness to try such treats ;)

Actually, Spam is pure pork shoulder! And it's the best at breakfast!!
