Travel Between Quonset Point, North Kingstown to Newport

Any hints on how to get between Quonset Point, North Kingstown, where the vineyard fast ferry departs / arrives to Newport itself? They have transers to the Kingston Amtrak station, but what would I do from there. Thank you, Lissa

There is a public bus #64 that goes from Kingston AMTRAK to Newport. It takes about an hour and not that frequent:

With that ferry-to-train transfer already costing $18 per person, I think with 2 or more people you may want to just book some shuttle or taxi direct to Newport.

Thank you, I'll try and find out how much a shuttle or taxi would be.

Quonset Point is an old Navy base in North Kingstown and really not close to any great transport services. I would definitely set up a cab/car service ahead of time on this one.

"Hijack" the Vineyard ferry and have them drop you off at Newport before it continues to Quonset Point.

Isn't there a Vineyard ferry somewhere else along the Amtrak line, line New London or Boston? I think Kingston Station is not your best option. Sometimes taxis there are unreliable as there are only a few operating in the area and they can get busy, despite the fact that you have a reservation.

RIPTA Bus #14 runs right from Quonset Point (or, even more often, from a mile away at the junction of Route 1 and 403) straight to Newport.

In Google Maps, if you ask for directions from Quonset Point to 23 America's Cup Ave in Newport (which is their main bus terminal), and then click on the "Public Transport" option, you'll get the bus times. There is an option to choose when you would like to arrive/depart.

Google Maps + Public Transportation = Goodness

Also, the bus from Quonset is MUCH more direct than the bus from the Kingston Amtrak Station. (Note to Amtrak and the town of Newport: you guys are nuts for not collaborating on a shuttle from the train station straight to Newport. Seriously. It currently takes 2.5 hours to get from the train to Newport by bus....way to encourage tourists to come without their cars.)

From the RIPTA website, I see only one #14 bus on each weekday at 3:40p that actually departs from Quonset point to Newport. Otherwise, one has to go to Route 1/403, and that's 2 miles from the pier, not one. From there, there are 8 buses each weekday to Newport (including that 3:40p one). 4 buses each Saturday, and no service on Sunday.

It is not the most frequent bus route out there.
