Transportation/Shuttle from Washington DC National Airport to Hotel
I have researched Washington DC and Alexandria, VA extensively on the web, including this forum. Will be planning a trip in the fall and have not decided where to stay but have narrowed it down to about 6 hotels in Washington DC and 2 in Alexandria. Will probably stay in Alexandria if I can't find a shuttle from airport to DC. My question is transportation from National to hotel. Some of the hotels in Alexandria offer a shuttle from airport or you can ride the metro. I am concerned about handling your baggage on the metro. Does anyone know of any hotels in Washington DC that offer shuttle services to and from National Airport. Would really prefer not to take a cab.

I would take a taxi. If you are staying in Old Town Alexandria, it's only a few miles from Reagan National Airport.
I don't know what your price threshold is for hotels, but have you checked out morrisonhouse.com in Old Town Alex?

Unless you are traveling during prime commute times, or are carrying a lot of luggage, getting on the Metro at the airport with luggage should not be a problem. If you don't wish to transfer between lines on the Metro with your luggage, take either the Yellow or Blue train to a station nearest your hotel.
It would be even easier in Alexandria, as the "subways" are elevated.
I only know of Arlington/Alexandria area hotels with airport shuttles - know of no DC hotels which do that - sorry.

getting on the metro with luggage even during rush hour isn't a problem IF you go to the last door on the last car of the train! There are little nooks for people to stand with their stuff.
I've seen people on there with giant suitcases, two-baby strollers, even a shopping cart filled with stuff from CostCo. (why they weren't stopped by metro personnel I can't answer).

Call the 1-800 number for the 6 hotels in DC and ask if they offer a shuttle service. If they don't, CONSIDER a taxi. A taxi from Reagan Nat'l to downtown is less than $10. Also you could take METRO. You won't even need to go outside ther terminal to catch it (With baggage, I would avoid it inbound to DC Mon-FRi from 7:30 am-9:00 am and outbound from DC with baggage from 5:00pm-6:30pm).
