transportation options Albany to NYC.
 
Hi- My daughter needs today to get from Albany to NYC- what is the best option- Train or bus.
Replies appreciated.

I'd say Amtrak. One way fare will run about $50.00. You can check schedules at www.amtrak.com and use ALB to NYP as your city pairs.

Which is best? Depends on which station it is easier for her to reach from where she is starting. The train station is on the east side of the river. The bus station is on the west side. This may or may not influence her options.

The bus claims to take 2 hours 45 minutes.

Bus may be more convenient and cheaper. The Trailways bus stops at several Albany locations. (airport, SUNY, and downtown)

Getting from Albany to the Rensselaer Amtrak station will take time and $, unless she can get a ride.

Or if budget is a huge issue I have confidence she could get a carpool ride from Albany to metro north station in Poughkeepsie, leaving after 5pm today.
