Transportation in Las Vegas (and a few other questions)

Hubby and I are headed to Las Vegas the end of February. We will not be renting a car, so can use some help with transportation plans. We are staying at Bally's.

1. One afternoon/evening we would like to go downtown to Fremont Street and the Neon Museum (any thoughts on this place?) and possibly dinner at Binions (do we need reservations?). What is the best option for getting there. If I remember right we have taken a bus in the past which seemed to take a long time -- is that still the best idea? Anything else that we should be sure not to miss while downtown?

2. We have tickets to Garth Brooks one night and are thinking about eating at either the Peppermill or LaCave first (opinions??). Looks like both may be quite a hike from Bally's. What makes the most sense? Bus, monorail or something else?

3. Transportation to and from the airport. Is a cab the best option?

Thanks!

Taxis in Vegas are economical and abundant. Certainly my suggestion to the downtown trip is to take a cab.

The Monorail was convenient for longer trips. The monorail runs behind the hotels on the strip. The walk from the station out to the strip might be longer than you think. The monorail is reasonably priced, clean and safe.

You might ask if Bally has an airport shuttle option. Most casinos don't. The taxi line at the airport can be a wait during peak weeks and times. It's a 10 minute ride from the airport to Ballys.

"The Deuce" bus is $7/pp for a 24 hour pass. They are often packed but will eventually get you to the Fremont Street Experience. If you are just going for a buffet, I prefer the Golden Nugget to Binions. The price for the buffet goes up every weekday at 3:30PM. Saturday/Sunday high price all day.
For a real thrill, ride the zipline at the Fremont Street Experience. Check with a cabbie on the fare and what to expect at the Neon Museum. The pawn shop seen in Pawn Stars is at 713 S Las Vegas Blvd. Enjoy your trip.

For getting to/from the airport I would recommend a taxi. There are shuttles that might save you a few dollars, but they will be slower and less convenient. If you want to make sure to take the most direct route from the airport to Bally's, just say "no tunnel" (The tunnel takes you to the highway and adds a few dollaars to the trip)

Taxi to the hotel depends on time of day. You will save a bunch if you can take the direct route, but sometimes the traffic on surface streets is, esp. The Strip, is so bad, the freeway is not only quicker but you're not paying for all the waiting time as you sit in traffic.
