transportation help please
 

I need to travel from La Guardia airport to the Metropolitan Museum of Art? Is subway available the whole way, or do I need to get away from the airport first.Thanks for the help.

you'll actually get many more responses with a specific title like "transportation from La Guardia Airport" rather than "transportation help" but I'll give it the first shot <BR><BR>The short answer is that there is really no easy direct link from the 2 NYC airports to the city by public transportation<BR>Are you looking for the absolute cheapest way? That would probably be taking a bus to a subway, and probably switching trains at least once. It would cost $1.50, but involve a lot of time ( I would allow an hour and a half because you never know how long you'll wait for busses or trains) and carrying any luggage you have up and down stairs.<BR><BR>For one travler, you could take a supershuttle from the airport to any point in manhattan for about $15. A bus from the airport will not take you to that part of town, only to one of the main train or bus terminals, and would cost about $12, I think, then you'd need to get to the museum.<BR><BR>If you're trying to save time and /or if there's more than one passneger, you're better off with a metered yellow cab. Hi Susie,<BR>Here are the best two options for taking public transportation from LaGuardia to the Met.<BR>1. Take the M60 bus at the airport ($1.50 exact change, no bills)and switch to the "N" subway line. Take the N to the Lexington Avenue Station. Switch there for the "4" or "5" train uptown 1 stop to 86th street. Walk down the block to the Met.<BR><BR>2. Take the M60 at LaGuardia to 125th St. and Lexington Ave. Switch for the 4 or 5 subway downtown 1 stop to 86th Street. Walk over to the Met from there.<BR><BR>Depending on time of day and traffic either option should take 45 minutes to 1 hour. <BR>A taxi will cost about $20 and about 20-45 minutes depending on time of day and traffic.<BR>I hope that answers your question!

susie:<BR>John's #2 advice is good, though if you have a MetroCard before you come, the whole trip will cost $1.50. If not, you will have to pay $1.50 (exact change)on the M60 bus and then get a token at the booth for your subway ride. www.mta.info should help you with MetroCard purchases before your arrival.

Susie, unless you're completely broke, please take a taxi from LGA to the Met. It's an easy trip across the Triborough Bridge and it won't cost more than $20. The bus/subway thing will take FOREVER and will be a major hassle, especially if you're carrying bags. <BR><BR>Good luck!

one added detail to John's advice--you don't walk "down the block" to the Met from the 4 or 5 train. The Train stop is at 86th street and Lexington, the actual entrance to the Met (where the stairs are, not the very edge of the building) is at 82nd street and 5th avenue, so you're talking about 4 blocks and 3 avenues (from Lexington to Park, to Madison, to 5th--equal to about another 6 blocks). You're talking about a half mile.<BR>Listen to the others--take a cab or shuttle....

Hi Susie,<BR>I took your question at face value and answered as such. You want to get from LaGuardia to the Met. I do that route by bus and subway a couple of times a month. It will not take you forever. It will take about 45 minutes. When you get off the subway at 86th street the met is right down the block. You will walk down 86th street to 5th ave and to your left you will see the museum. I have assumed that you are intelligent enough to seek alterate means of transport if you are in a rush, have bulky luggage etc.<BR>Have fun.
