Transportation from Newark to Manhattan...??
 

We will be flying in to Newark, and I'm wondering if there are shuttles or what I can get to go to Midtown Manhattan. I'm not sure if the four of us and all our luggage will all fit in one taxi, and two may be too expensive. Does anyone have some answers?

The airport from EWR to the POrt Authority (42nd and 8th Avenue) is $11 a person. A taxi would probably be needed to get to the hotel from the PA. A taxi to midtown from EWR would be $34 plus a toll and a tip. The taxi would probably be less expensive than the bus for four. NY taxis will take four people. Don't know about NJ taxis.

There's a newly inaugurated train service from EWR right into NY Penn Station - beats the heck out of bus or taxi!

Need more info on the train........what web site should I look under? Where do we catch it? Cost? Etc. Please give more info!!!!

The monorail that is already in operation between terminals and to parking lots is being extended to a transfer station that will allow direct access to Amtrak or NJ Transit. The monorail is free if I understand correctly - the NJ Transit train to Manhattan should be about $5-6 per person if it's priced like similar NJ Transit routes (and a discount is typically offered for round trip or off peak). Now the bad news - service is not scheduled to begin until the 4th quarter of this year. Haven't seen anything definite yet. You might check to see fi there are any mini-van cabs servicing Newark - it's quite possible and they could definitely handle four people and luggage. If you end up needing two cabs you'd be better to shop around beforehand for car service - it is probably the samne price as two cabs if you get a competitive rate and a much more comfortable ride.
