Transportation from Maui airport

What is the cheapest way for one person to get from Kahului airport to Kaanapali?

Ken

The absolute cheapest way would be to hitchhike - walking being ruled out due to the nature of the highway along the coast.

If this is out of the question then follow the below link

http://www.state.hi.us/dot/airports/...ound_trans.htm

The rate by Speedi Shuttle from the airport to Kaanapali is $41 for one person and $47 for two. No deal there for a single !!

Any other options ?

Check for one-way rental cars. A buddy of mine got there a day before we did and he did a one way rental which was cheaper than taxi or shuttle.

Good idea Jim. Thanks for the hint. I am assuming that a one way rental can't be arranged in advance.

you need a car in maui. if you remain static in Kaanapali you'll miss most of the magic of the island. kaanapali is lovely, with a 4 mile long beach and mountains in the background, but, after a while, that scenery gets monotonous. it's far from the most stirring scenery on the island.

You are absolutely righ x. However I have been to Maui a number of times and I have seen most parts of it over and over. Although I still like to explore and see what is new and visit some of my favorite spots, I now tend to stay put in Kaanapali a lot more than I did on earlier visits. I don't need a car everyday, so I just rent one for three or four days of a two week stay.

Jim Rogers, do you or anyone else know which car rental companies will rent one way from Kahului airport to Kaanapali (without a big drop charge)?

dolciani Apr 20th, 2003 05:57 PM

National Car rental will do it on the big island so my guess is that they will also do it on Maui. Phone 1-800-227-3876. Apparently, it also that allowance is determined by what type of car you're renting. Neither Hertz nor Avis would let us one-way rent an SUV.

Thanks Dolciani. Was there an additional drop charge to rent one way?

dolciani Apr 21st, 2003 10:47 AM

National said that they do not charge a "drop off fee". Don't forget to use memberships or coupons - you can always get a "cheaper" rate on rental cars.
