Transportation from LGA to Manhattan

What are the best providers of ground transportation from LGA to Midtown Manhattan. I have taken a luxury sedan on a previous visit, but it was about $35 five years ago when I visited. I am looking for that price range or under for a NICE vehicle. Does anyone know what limos run? I am taking my husband for a romantic weekend in the city. Thanks!

Super Shuttle is fine. It costs $15 from lga to Manhattan. The transportation desk at LGA will take care of it for you when you arrive.

Take a taxi. It's nice enough, the price is right, and you'll get to midtown in 20-30 minutes.

In your case, shuttles are a waste of time and effort, and you'll only save $10.

If it's supposed to be a romantic weekend by all means take a cab or car service. Nothing can kill a romantic evening quicker than the Super Shuttle or the NY Airport Express bus.

However, if your husband doesn't mind and it won't crimp your style, go for the Express bus over the Super Shuttle. It's $5 cheaper per person ($10 each) and just as fast, if not faster, as the SS. There are at least 2 more active threads right now dealing with this very subject for you to read.

We used a car service from Midtown to LGA last month.Called a limo service advertised in one of the freebie NY guides available at the hotels. Advertised rates were $20 car, $25 luxury Lincoln, etc. Opted for the Lincoln. Showed up at our midtown hotel 10 minutes early, handled all the luggage, etc. Cost about the same as a cab and will contact them next time to meet us at the airport. (In May there was a huge cab line at LaGuardia. After about 20 minutes in line, we were approached by a stretch driver who offered us, and two other couples, rides in for $35 per couple. We actually knew one of the other couples. That worked fine also.)

Plummie,
Do you remember what the companies you used were?

Plummie Jul 1st, 2002 01:33 PM

Amber -

Just saw your question. The limo guy who approached us at LaGuardia was probably operating on his own, and don't have the name. Just checked our VISA bill online, and saw a charge for the company we used to take us to the airport - Lincoln Limo Broker of Flushing NY. The amount charged was $31.50 which my husband thinks included tolls and gratuities, but I think must have just been tolls. Anyway, try to find them at switchboard.com under either NYC or Flushing. We also got a card from the driver and would call him direct, but not sure where we put it. I'll post it here if I find it in the next day or so.

Amber-

Out of curiosity, checked switchboard myself. There's several Lincoln Limos -
called the one that seemed most logical. Was told the fare from LGA for a town car is $35 plus tolls and parking, so just arranging it on the spot should save you a bit. She said the fare to LGA from midtown is $25 off rush hour plus tolls. That number was 718-777-0111.

Thanks, Plummie!
I will check that out!

If there are at least two people involved take a taxi. Cost to midtown will not exceed $25 with tip and toll included. If you arrange for a car in advance there will probably be an additional parking fee. If the plane is late you may be charged a waiting time fee. If you call for a car upon arrival you will have to wait for the car to show up. It could be 5 minutes (if lucky) or who knows how long. Pick up your luggage, head for the taxi line and you will be on your way shortly thereafter.

Take a cab. $25 to midtown. Towncar would be $50.

My hotel concierge told me that it's best to tell cabbie (for midtown location) to use Queensboro Bridge. Funny, I've always been taken via Triboro, now I know why! They make more money that way.

I was all set to take NY Airport Express today when I arrive, but now after reading this thread, I'm thinking taxi again!

Sue - taxi drivers don't make any more money when they use the TRiboro bridge. The extra $3.50 is the toll for the bridge. If the driver uses an EZ pass he does make about 25 cents, the discount for using an EZ pass. If he goes to the airport twice a day (not likely) he makes an extra 50 cents or so. They use the toll bridge, mainly, because under most circumstances it is faster.
