Transportation from JFK to Brooklyn, NY
 

HI! My friends and I will be arriving at JFK and we are looking for recommendations on the best (cheapest and most reliable) way to get to our hotel in Brooklyn. It is 3 of us total. Thinking of either a taxi (but we have been advised you can be ripped off by a driver who takes the longest route possible) or maybe find a car service to pick us up. If anyone has any car services they have used and can recommend that would be awesome. Thank you!

Depending on where the hotel may be, you can look at the Aitrain. One goes from Howard Beach and the other from Jamaica.

There are less and less taxi rip-offs as they have GPS are easy to track for the wrong route. But depending on the time of day, there could be a lot of traffic.

Hmm ya our flight lands at 7 am so I'd imagine that'd be during rush hour. I'll definitely look into the Aitrain though Thank you. Our hotel is on 4th St in Brooklyn but other than that Idk what's near by.

Google maps is your friend. You can map public transportation from JFK to your hotel.

Did you mean 4th st, or 4th ave?

If you go to hopstop.com and put in JFK and the exact address and name of the hotel it will give you all options for getting there - subway, bus, cab etc.

If after you look at it you decide to use a car service (to get a fixed rate) check the web sites of Dial 7 and Carmel - both have coupons - and they are large and reliable services. You are expected to tip 20% in addition to the fixed price - but avoid the meter running in traffic.

If you take a taxi do have directions on how to get there - since many drivers are not very familiar with Brooklyn.

A car service will offer a flate-rate ride to your hotel and should cost about $50 to $60. You can probably get there by subway if you want, but that will be crowded, and you'll have to negotiate stairs with your luggage. It's about $20 to $25 per person vs. $7.75. It's really your choice, but if you can afford it you can take a car service. To be honest, you'll probably do better with Uber. That's generally the best choice for Brooklyn.

You can also take a regular taxi, but most taxi drivers don't know Brooklyn well, and during rush your the meter can run up quickly.

Sorry typo the hotel is on 49th st in Brooklyn. Maybe I can find a subway line to use the air train and subway to get there

You have to be more specific on giving a location.

Brooklyn is a large borough so just saying 49th St is not going to be enough.

What is the cross street, or the address or the name of the hotel?

If it is the "Sleep Inn" at 247 49th St (between 2nd & 3rd Av) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn you might want to take a cab because the nearest subway station is at 45th St & 4th Av and it will take 2 subway trains to get from JFK.

Take the AirTrain to the Howard Beach station. There take the subway (Manhattan bound - A train to Jay Street-MetroTech station). In the middle of the Jay St platform there will be a staircase leading up to the R train. Take a downtown (Bay Ridge-95th St bound) R train to the 45th St station. Exit to the street, walk over to 3rd Av, make a right, walk 4 blocks to 49th St, make a left on 49th St to the hotel.

The AirTrain fee is $5.00 and the subway fare is $2.75. You can buy a AirTrain + Subway MetroCard from the vending machine at the Howard Beach station. The cost per card is $8.75 (AirTrain $5.00, Subway $2.75 and a $1.00 fee for a new MetroCard. (Note: the MetroCard can be refilled at any subway station at no additional fee).

Note on what Doug mentioned - since the Hotel is in Brooklyn there will not be a flat fee (that only applies to trips between JFK and Manhattan). You would be paying a metered rate with Brooklyn.

Assuming you mean the Sleep Inn you can get close by subway - but not quickly.

You would take the Airtrain to Hoard BEach and there take the A train, then change for the R train and then walk about 10 minutes to the hotel. Hopstop estimates the travel time as about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

little - We are telling you the exact address is important because Brooklyn is so large. It's twice the size of Paris!

My apologies I don't think my browser refreshed the page when I last commented so I didn't see some of the responses. Yes nycguy and nytraveler are correct we will be at the Sleep Inn. The address I was given didn't have the burrow. It's been about 7 years since I've been there last and I wasn't the one navigating the trip as I will be this time. I appreciate all the responses and suggestions. My preference would be a car service with a flat rate. My friends who are going with me have never traveled like this before and have a mixture of fear of the unknown as well as some older friends who are telling them some pretty exaggerated stories of what "could" happen with different scenarios which doesn't help. I like all the options though so we can weigh pros and cons and chose what's best from that so I really appreciate all the info!

Yes, Brooklyn is one of the 5 boroughs (counties) that make up NYC. It is one of the largest and has more than 2 million residents.

(Hmmm... I kinda like the idea that I live in a burrow . . .)

We travel from JFK to Brooklyn (73rd & 5th) several times a year to visit our son and family. We always use Dial 7 Taxi service. The # is 212 777-7777. They are prompt, professional, honest and the cars are nice and very clean. It costs about $60 for a ride from JFK to 73rd St. in Brooklyn.

I don't even have an explanation how I did that dianedancer �� thank you for the number Laurie4 after talking to my friends I think we all prefer this over the subway trains since we will have luggage so it's nice to have a number someone finds to be reliable!
