Transportation from Downtown Seattle to SeaTac
 

Does anyone know of shuttle transportation from downtown Seattle to the airport? I am hoping to not have to rent a car.

I think our taxi fare was under $10.

Sorry I'm taking this back. I forgot we took the train, not a plane.

Taxi from downtown to SeaTac posted rate is $28 and should take 20-30 mins. (Although another Fodors poster recently said it cost them $40 and took 1 hour, which is highly unusual from my experience.)

There is the 'Greyliner' bus which makes a loop of the major downtown hotels then goes out to the airport. I believe it is $8.75 one-way. There is a website.

If you're adventurous without too much luggage you can take a regular Metro bus for a couple bucks. Also has a website.

We arrived last month in Seattle at about 3:30 PM. The taxi driver took us the "back way" via the Alaska viaduct (is that 99?) to come right into the Inn at Harbor Steps. The fare was 30.50 plus tip. We gave him $35.

When we picked up our car the next day at the Hilton and drove to SeaTac to pick up our friends around noon, it took us almost an hour to get there. We went via interstate and traffic was stopped most of the way.

Wow! Thanks for all the tips and websites! I found the grayliner which looked like a good deal. It doesn't seem like it goes to some of the hotels that are not a chain though. :( And yes, we will be coming back from our wedding in Maui and honeymoon in Kauai, so lots of luggage!

Right, Grey Line goes to the major hotel chains, so pick whichever is closest (i.e. use the Warwick stop for Hotel Andra, Westin for the Mayflower Park, etc.).

I sometimes use it to just get INto downtown and then catch a cab up to Capitol Hill where I live to save money.

With lots of luggage and on a honeymoon I'd spring for a taxi myself!

Is there even room for luggage on the Grayline? So, you are saying we could stay at a different hotel, but use the Grayline from another hotel stop?

I went ahead and rented a car. I got it for $12.00/day on priceline. Thanks for all the input.

If you have to pay for parking in downtown Seattle, it is expensive. In that case you would be better off taking a taxi. I always plan about $30-$35, including tip.

Unless money is really tight, I think the Grey Line bus and the Express Shuttle are a bad deal.

The Express Shuttle is good for one person who lives in a hard-to-get-to neighborhood away from downtown or for two people who live a long way from the airport.

I know you decided to rent a car, but will answer the Grey Line Airporter questions for others... yes there's loads of room for luggage, the driver puts it in a cargo hold under the bus according to which hotel you say you'll get off at. They don't care where you're staying or if you're staying. Lots of people use this as a way to simply get into downtown Seattle cheaper than a taxi but quicker and easier then the Metro bus.

The grayliner sounds like a good deal (esp. for future trips). Since we have free parking at the hotel I figured renting a car would be very convenient and affordable.

I think a rental car is a fine idea, especially with free hotel parking.

It's just in your original post you said you were hoping "to not have to rent a car" hence all our alternate suggestion :-)

Yes, you are right, I was, but the more I thought about it I figured it was the cheapest way to go. Also, convenient and not that big of deal.........so I gave in!!!!!!! :)
