Transportation from downtown Miami to Ft. Lauderdale airport

We'll be spending some time in Miami later this year, but we'll be flying home from Ft. Lauderdale. What are my options for transportation between them? How long would it take, and what can I expect to pay (2 people + luggage)?

Thanks.

Options are:

Private limo service, private car service, shuttle bus, taxi, rail service, , etc. Cost and time varies with type of service, where in Miami you are leaving from and time of day for your trip. What's best for YOU depends on your budget. From mid-town Miami to FLL is about a 45 minute drive (without traffic) so that's what you should plan on if using a car service. Add more time for shared transportation, shuttle buses, and much more time if you rely on public transportation.

FYI - a simple google search for "Transportation from Miami to FLL" will bring up scores of links covering every type of transportation available.

The distance from Mid-town Miami to FLL is 24 miles. The time it takes to drive that will greatly depend on the time of day/day of the week.

I live about 10 miles north of the airport and it has never taken me 45 minutes to get to Miami even IN traffic on I-95 but the various possibilities which RoamsAround outlines are pretty much correct.

I would get a car service and simply plan to PAY for that convenienec because that is exactly what it will be.

I would NOT do TriRail unless you have a lot of time and patience.

BTW, are you planning to fly out on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?

be aware that those are the busiest days at FLL due to the literally thousands of cruise ship passengers who will pass through the airport, especially during the Fall and Winter.

Because of that cruise ship passenger traffic the airlines often limit the time frame during which you can check luggage in to a four-hour window (obviously not an issue if you have carry-on items only).

Thank you all for your replies.

Dukey, unfortunately we will be flying out on a Sunday, so I guess the crowds are unavoidable. We're planning to spend Saturday night at an airport hotel that provides shuttle service, but that's about all we can do to mitigate our travel time that day.

Based on the suggestions above, since we're not planning on any sight-seeing in Ft. Lauderdale, we will probably use a car service from Miami directly to the Airport hotel in the evening, for a morning flight the next day.

I haven't chosen a car service yet (still researching), but if anyone has any specific recommendations, they would be appreciated.

We use Uber with no problems. You might consider staying along the Ft. Lauderdale beach area. Not that far and more more attractive than the airport area. I think my Uber fare from the south end of the beach to the airport was under $10.

We used Metro City Tours a few years back and they were affordable and timely. Worked out great!
