the cat ferry is the only choice now. there use to be a ferry from portland but it is not running this year.
|
was there this summer and took the cat. first of all they really rip you off big time. if you are going in a car will be a few hundred dollars. next the trip was very foggy and couldnt see a thing and the boat was very bumpy. but you dont have many choices except to drive through newfoundland to prince edward island (which is a really awesome place) then take another ferry to nova scotia. enjoy

Rip off? The one-way fare for a passenger car is about US$100. Driving Bar Harbor to Yarmouth is 634 miles. Say your car average 25mph, that still takes 25 gallon of gas. Say gas is $2.5 (gas is more expensive in Canada than the US), it's over $60 just for gas.
Now, if you're going to Halifax, then it's not as good a deal. But I can't see how you can call that a rip off. |
I should add that you can say the fares are pretty high - but for passengers, which is about $50 each way.
Still, it's all comparative. It still costs less than riding the cheapest train from New York to Boston. |
I don't believe you drive through Newfoundland to N.S. Maybe New Brunswick. Also my aging Aunt tell me there is a new bridge from PEI to N.S. Is she hallucinating again?
