Transport from Airports to downtown hotels in DC

What kind of transport is available from airports (Reagan and Dulles) to downtown hotels? We have a reservation near Metro Center but our flight arrives at 1 AM in the morning. We are concerned about safety. The hotel doesn't have shuttles.

Are there shuttles operating at that hour? Please post their names.

Thanks.

Rahul

A taxi will probably be your best bet at that hour, and the cost for travel within the District isn't very high.

Thank you Underhill. How about safety?

The flight arrives at 1 AM. We would be out by 1:30 or 2 AM. Is that hour safe to travel by taxi?

We have two children and one senior. So mobility isn't good.

Is there a shuttle service available at that hour?

Thanks

Safety is no different in a shuttle or a taxi. A shuttle may be available from Dulles, but the wait would be longer. Taxi would be much faster.

Are you arriving at Reagan or Dulles?

If it's Dulles, I think your only option at 1 am is going to be a taxi from then single company servicing IAD, Washington Flyer. Cost will be in the range of $50. Wash Flyer operates a bus to a metro station in Falls Church which will be closed at that hour. There's a shuttle (supershuttle.com) but the website implies it's "on demand" and I'm guessing demand is not high that time of night.

Safety? I'd do it with my family.

Regarding arrival at Reagan, I'm guessing a taxi (multiple companies) is your most practical option. Cost will be lower than the fare from Dulles.

If you DO fly into IAD and it's a Fri or Sat night (in "hotel" time)... actually a Saturday or Sunday morning in real time, you might be able to get a hotel near IAD for very reasonable amount ... of course only good if you can cancel one night of your current one. Definately weigh all costs as even a "more expensive" flight to DCA might be less costly in the end.

If at all possible do fly into DCA - Dulles is lots further out and a royal pain. Whichever you use, a taxi is your best bet at that time, and probably will cost no more than a shuttle for the group. The Metro will not be operating at the time you arrive.

Thank you all for input. This is really helpful. We might either try for an earlier flight or use a cab.

Regards.

My husband has better luck with Super Shuttle when he gets in late than at prime time. He says that they make people wait a long time during the day because they want a full van of people going to the same destination, whereas at night they just get a group together and go.
