Transporation

Hi,
4 of us will be arriving in NY City at LGA on Dec 14 and leaving 18.

What is the best way to get to Wellington hotel from the airport.
Heard that the super shuttle was not the way to go. Please advise.

Normally I suggest public transit, but bringing baggage from LGA into the city is a pain.

From the Wellington Hotel website:

How can I get to the Wellington from the airport?

All three airports have shuttle buses. You can purchase tickets in advance online at the Piccolo Gift Shop website (www.piccologiftshop.com) or upon your arrival at Ground Transportation in the baggage claim area.

Taxis from and to JFK are $45 (flat fee) plus tolls and tip.
There is also a train.
Taxis from LaGuardia are approximately $35 plus tolls and tip.
Taxis from Newark are approximately $60 plus tolls and tip. There is also a train to Penn Station. From Penn Station it is just a mile to the hotel by taxi, bus (Eighth Avenue number 10 or 20) or subway (E, N)

If you prefer a limousine, towncar, van or coach for individuals or groups please go to www.piccologiftshop.com or call 212-957-0929 to place your request.

With four, you can still fit in one taxi if you don't have too much luggage. $35 is a good estimate of the cost, including toll and tip.

For 4 people the only thing that makes sense is cab (shuttle bus for 4 will be more than cab and SuperShutle is VERY unreliable). There are always plenty of cabs at the airport and will easily hold 4 people and a normal amount of luggage.

$35 or $40 including toll and tip should cover it.

And one taxi will be WAY cheaper than four tickets for Super Shuttle, not to mention the taxi will also be quicker and easier right to your door!

Thanks for all of your info. We will probably each have a large suitcase. Do you think that 4 can fit in the trunk of the cab. Or should I rent an suv or van.

Gekko Oct 13th, 2008 10:19 AM

If you're arriving at rush hour on 12/14, consider a car service. Cost is about the same or less than a taxi.

Why? Taxi lines at rush hour can be very long.

Otherwise, take a taxi both ways.

Dear Gekko

Thanks so much for your response.

I think I will get a van or suv to pick us up.

nytraveler Oct 13th, 2008 10:32 AM

How "large" are the suitcases? If you're talking about bodybags - or 30" - I don;t think any regular car will hold 4 of them. If you mean a 24" or 26" you should be fine with a regular cab.

Gekko Oct 13th, 2008 10:39 AM

I agree ... taxi trunks are huge.

But if you have 4 HUGE suitcases, then you'll need a larger vehicle.

Thanks for your reply.

I called a van service and for $50 plus tip and toll they can pick us up at the airport and bring us to our hotel.

You just need to make sure that you are the ONLY passengers on the van - that they won't be taking other people to other hotels - driving you around in traffic the whole time.
