Transfer to/from JFK & North Jersey
 

Hi! For our upcoming trip our parents need to get to/from JFK and north jersey(Wayne). Has anyone used an inexpensive transfer service before?

The research I have done so far,
1)Economy parking at JFK(if they drove in) is $150
2)Car services are $110 OW.

Some people from NJ using JFK for a trip have found it's actually cheaper to rent a car in NJ, drive it to JFK and drop it there vs. parking their own for an extended time.

Getting into Manhattan however they can and then public transport from there to JFK is another idea.

Just for grins and giggles, I went to Kayak.Com, and asked how much it would be to rent a car in Wayne, NJ and drop it off at JFK that same day. I had no problem finding cars for less than $40. Fill up your gas just outside JFK, pay some tolls, add taxes (but no tip!); and I think you'll find this is the best way to go.

Hi! Thanks, This will work great for their outbound trip.. However, they are returning at 6:50 PM on a sunday, and dropping off the next day increases the price to $95. Incidentally dropping off the same night(~11 PM) is $120... However, I will further research this...

I haven't looked for the details, but I will throw this out. If NJ Transit trains go anywhere near Wayne, I'd suggest for the return that they take the Airtrain into Penn Station, then switch to NJ Transit and have someone pick them up at the train station. This is probably a $25 trip (or less) for each person, which would be comparable to the car on the way over. OF course, this isn't such a good idea if they have a lot of luggage.

The trains don't, but there's a New Jersey Transit park and ride at the Willowbrook mall in Wayne. It's 30 minutes to/from Port Authority in Manhattan. Tickets are $5.15 each way. It's a commuter line, and runs until Midnight, which they should be able to catch easily. Buses usually run every half an hour. Except on Sundays when they're a little bit less frequent.

They can catch the A/C/E subway line directly beneath Port Authority and take whichever one of those it is that goes to the Airtrain.

Needless to say...I've done this before. ; )

Maybe they can rent a car to go to JFK. On the way back, if someone could pick them up at the Wayne park and ride (or get a taxi from there) they've got a few options to get to Port Authority. In addition to the AirTrain/subway, there's also an Express Airport bus that goes from JFK to Port Authority.

They would have just arrived from italy at 6:50 PM and will have atleast 1 suitcase pp and are elderly.. Not sure if I want them to take the subway and then take the bus... But I guess its either that or have someone pick them up...

There are escalators and elevators at each of the transfer points for this voyage. The Airtrain is very accessible as it's designed for this sort of thing. Bus drivers will load the luggage for them into the storage bays (if the suitcases are unmanageable).

It's doable. Not ideal, but definitely doable. And if they get there and decide that they'd rather not, then they can take a car service. If they bring a phone number with them and call from the tarmac, the service should be able to meet them within minutes.
