Transfer to Connecticut
 

We're being transferred to the Hartford area. We are looking for a nice, family-oriented town. Some names that keep coming up are Avon, Salisbury, and W. Hartford. Anyone have thoughts on these or suggestions for other towns to look at?

Where exactly will you be working. In downtown hartford or outside?

Simsbury -

If you will be working in Simsbury you should stay west of Avon Mountain (really more of a hill) as the commute from the east is a bear. Avon, Simsbury, Canton, Farmington are all nice towns with good schools. West Hartford is nice too and less rural, but is just on the other side of the mountain. Salisbury is not close.

Stellablue is correct. I used to live in Simsbury/Canton area and it is beautiful. It is expensive compared to other areas of Hartford and the public schools are great. Not sure where you are currently living but make sure your salary will provide enough to meet the cost of living in that area.
