TRAINS or Public Transport from Newark, New Jersey to Philadelphia -- HELP!
I'll be up in New Jersey in a few weeks (business travel) and would like to get over to Philadelphia. Is there train service that would get me to Philly from Newark (or Morristown) ??? I'm not having any success with my web searches.

Sure there is. In the center of Newark (quite a dump!), near Seton Hall Law School, there is a train station. Every train between New York and Philly goes through this station, I believe it is also called Penn Station. Amtrak.com shows plenty of trains going between the two cities many times a day.

Try the following websites: www.njtransit.state.nj.us and www.septa.org You should be able to get a train from Penn Station in Newark into Trenton then on a PA regional rail line (R7 I think) on into Philly. You could also go on Amtrak but I think it will be significantly more expensive. I know that a NJ transit roundtrip ticket from Hamilton NJ (1 station north of Trenton) into Penn Station in NYC only costs around 13.50 off peak so I doubt Newark to Philly would be too much.

Unfortunately Newark to Philly on Amtrak will be far more expensive even though it's not that much further than Trenton. Amtrak trains on routes identical to commuter rail are far more expensive (e.g. Poughkeepsie to NY is approx twice as much on Amtrak as it is on Metro North commuter train).

Mdme-X, Hope I was clear (after above post I'm not so sure). Am suggesting you check out NJtransit (commuter rail) to Trenton then Trenton (PA Septa regional rail commuter) on into Philly. Should not be as expensive as Amtrak. I know many people who use this route from Philly to NY for day trips anf I think it is relatively painless. Good Luck!
