Amtrak

Here is Amtrak's web site:https://www.amtrak.com/home.html Enter Columbus and your destination city to get a schedule.

Where in New York. There are many lakes in New York State so it depends on where you are going in New York.

From Columbus you will end up on a Thruway BUS to Pittsburgh and then the train

You could FLY on Southwest via Baltimore or on Delta...the former might be cheaper than Amtrak and both would be a LOT faster but up to you.

If you are talking about NYC, he could take the subway to Sheepshead Bay station and walk about ten minutes to one of these charter boats. They have been going out for decades.

Unfortunately, there is no Amtrak station in COlumbus, if that means COlumbus, OH. I don't know why not, they had a grand one way back when and it's a good location for the state, too bad they haven't renovated it for use.

but if not Ohio, Columbus, where?

There is an Amtrak station in Cleveland or CIncinnati, though.
