train or quick coach to Vancouver
 

Some folks on this site recommended Quick Coach instead of Amtrak to get to Vancouver from Seattle. Do you happen to know which would be more scenic?

If "scenic" is the criterion, the train is first choice...the bus stays on the freeway all the way, not close to the water (except going past Lake Samish, visible in quick glimpses just south of Bellingham).

If you like the times the train leaves and returns, it is your best choice for scenery.

In addition to what has been previously mentioned, driving up I-5 provices views of the Cascades at Everett and it will take you through the Skagit Valley, which is quite beautiful.

If you are undecided, perhaps you could take the train one way and Quick Coach the other.

I'm wondering if Amtrak has a history of delays on that route. We're considering taking it for the day of our cruise to get to Vancouver.

Amtrack has a history of delays and a history of substituting buses for trains.

If your priority is to have a travel experience, and you like the departure time--take the train. Otherwise....

Do you think there would be a problem with getting to VAncouver on that day in time for the ship with amtrak? I haven't read about them substituting buses for the morning train. I do know the rest of the day is only bus routes.

Sorry I can't answer the last question. I don't know what time the train leaves, what time it arrives, or what time your ship sets sail.

I wouldn't be too worried about missing the boat; of course it depends on when your boat sails. Many folks go up early anyway to enjoy a day in Vancouver.

(Train leaves around 7:30 or 7:45 AM, arriving Vancouver around 1 IIRC, then 6 PM > 10:30 or so southbound.)

I'd also mention that if you rent a car and have a full day, there are numerous alternate routes to Vancouver that avoid freeways (for the most part) and offer considerably better scenery.

We took that route last summer and it was beautiful! Even my daughter, then 8, commented on how scenic it was. It seemed like everone was going to a cruise except us. Some people had a lot of baggage, but it seemed to be no problem. The train arrived on time and was very comfortable. It was a nicer train than those I ride back east. Check the Amtrak website and use "train status" to check on recent arrival times. If no times are listed, call 1-800-USA-RAIL and ask for the last 5 days.
