Can you tell me how far in advance you should make reservations for the 6p.m. train from Seward to Anchorage, and if anyone knows of a hotel close to the train station in Anchorage? Also, are there any car rentals nearby as well? Thank you

Perhaps the closest hotel to the RR station in Anchorage is the Comfort Inn Ship Creek <http://tinyurl.com/2pw9ud>, which is only .3 miles away. They offer a free shuttle to & from the railroad station.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn that is mentioned and it is not 3 miles from the depot. It is walking distance.

There are many downtown hotels that provide shuttles or it's only a cheap cab ride from the depot. Depends on your price range??

The train does sell out, I would book at least a month in advance.

We really enjoyed the train from Seward to Anchorage. We did this the last night we were in Alaska, so it is our last memory. We enjoyed being able to move around the cars. We had dinner on the train, and had a drink (hot tea, and hot chocolate) in the bar. Dome cars are nice to ride in as well. I didn't even realize we would be able to use those.

We took the train at the beginning of June on the same route, and it was quite empty. We bought it just a few hours before departing. Great train ride.

We stayed the Sheraton and they provided free shuttle pickup.
