Train from Dallas to Fort Worth?

Hi! I'm going to be in Dallas this weekend and am interested in visiting some of the attractions in Ft. Worth (maybe the Stockyards and the Downtown area?). I won't be renting a car, so I was wondering if anyone had any good/bad experiences with taking the train from Dallas to Fort Worth? Any recommendations on which stations to get off and on at (in Dallas I'll be staying in the Galleria area)? Thanks!

PS Sorry if this ends up getting posted twice; I'm having trouble with my internet connection

Ok, the train (Trinity Railway Express) between Dallas and Fort Worth is an good way to travel between cities if you are going downtown to downtown but there is no "station" anywhere near the Galleria and nor is there one close to the Fort Worth Stockyards. You can visit their website for schedules, fare information and "station map" -www.trinityrailwayexpress.org

For what it is worth, it will take you about an hour on the train to travel between cities. Add another 15 minute or so cab ride from the Galleria area to the train station and another 15 minutes from the train station in FW to the Stockyards for total travel time of 90 minutes (not including any waiting time at the train stations).

You are better off either renting a car to make the trip or getting a car service or taxi.

If you do decide to take the TRE use the Medical/Market Center Station or Victory Station in Dallas and the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Station in Fort Worth.

Honestly, it's such a hassle that it's much easier to rent a car for the day, if you're so inclined to visit FW. The Galleria is nowhere close to the TRE station, so the cab ride will be quite substantial.

Besides, TRE does not run on Sundays. So if you want to take TRE, you have to do your day trip on Saturday. The train runs only once every hour or 2.

I agree with the info above

Just so you know, there is a light rail station (Farmers Branch Station) not too far from the Galleria (too far to walk, though). If you hotel has a shuttle, they can probably drop you there. It is straight West on Alpha (Alpha changes name to Valley View Lane). The station is near Valley View and I-35. You can catch the Green Line to Victory Station and then switch to the TRE.

Here is a planning tool for you.

However, it will be MUCH, MUCH shorter (time wise) to rent a car.

There is also the Grapevine Historic Railroad that goes from downtown Grapevine to the Stockyards. https://www.grapevinetexasusa.com/Th...7/Default.aspx
Unfortunately, they are doing special events for Valentine's weekend, so the trains won't be running their regular schedule until Feb 18.

As others have said, it will be much easier to rent a car for the day!

Okay, thank you all very much for your responses. I'm printing them out, taking them with me, and making the call once I get there (after seeing how much it would cost to rent a car and whether my hotel has a shuttle that could take me to the station).

shah450: Welcome to Fodors. Carlita isn't looking to share a ride since her trip was nearly two years ago. (She hasn't been on Fodors in almost a year.)
