Trail Ridge Probably Not Open

While the target date is always Memorial Day weekend, it doesn't look like Trail Ridge Road will be open this weekend. Too much snow this past week.l Same problem will Mt. Evens road. This week has seen a lot of fresh snow.

It's open! (Trail Ridge)

No it is not. It open for a few hours yesterday but closed last night. It is ugly - blowing snow, ice, and absolutely no reason to drive it.

It varies hour by hour day by day. Typical for this time of year.

From yesterday's RMNP facebook page:

"Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park will open at 11AM today, Saturday, May 28. Due to melting snow on the road during the day and freezing temperatures at night, visitors should plan for night closures occurring at 8:00 p.m. until conditions change. Road crews and rangers will reassess conditions each morning and reopen the road when and if conditions allow."

We were chatting with our wedding guests last weekend, and they mentioned they were driving from Tabernash to Grand Lake to Estes. Good thing they told us their plan, as we knew Trailridge was not open. They had reservations to stay in Estes that night, so we directed them through Golden, to Boulder, to Lyons, to Estes.
