Traffic from Healy to Denali/Should we stay in Healy?

We are planning 4 days in Denali in July. Trying to decide on staying close to the park or in Healy. We are wondering how the traffic is getting from Healy to the park entrance. Also, can anyone recommend lodging (on a budget) for 3 adults and 2 teenagers near Denali.

The drive was only 15 min or so and not lots of traffic. We liked Denali Lakeview Inn - it was an amazing view, nice rooms. They put breakfast in your room and also made box lunches to take into the park.

We stayed at Earthsong Lodge in Healy and really enjoyed them. They start at $155 a night. The cabins are about 12 miles from Denali. Look on Trip Advisor to read everyones reviews and to get some other ideas.

You definately have the WRONG idea about this area's driving patterns. In no way, are you looking at "traffic". Staying in Healy is an excellent option.

There is no traffic near Denali. And "budget" in Alaska has its own definition - we were there last summer with our 2 almost-adult kids. Ended up spending way more than we thought and every penny was worth it. Have a good trip.

As for your hotel options, most do NOT allow 5 in one room. You may want to look at non hotel options perhaps?? Cabins etc.
