Traffic approaching Washington, DC

Hello, is traffic in Washington DC on weekends as bad as on weekdays? Planning a trip there from Ohio via Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Thanks!

Usually not but it depends on the weekend and what's happening. Time of day that you travel is just as important, or more important, than day of week.

Depending on what part of Ohio you are coming from, you might want to get to Morgantown WV and take I-68 to I-70 and I-270 from Frederick MD. Paying the toll on the PA Turnpike will not get you there any faster.
Another option might be taking the Amtrak Capitol Limited from an Ohio station into Washington. Finding parking in DC is sometimes a problem IMO.

What clarkgriswold wrote. Assuming you have it, do listen to traffic alerts on your gps/app thing.

Is the question about getting to DC or about being in DC on weekends? The answer might overlap but not necessarily.

My take from the title "approaching" means "getting to DC"

Amtrak takes forever, unfortunately.

I drive that route a lot, actually, at least several times a year. Sometimes I do the PA turnpike but mostly I prefer going down I79 to I68 and then across. Either way, you end up on I70 going east from Hancock. I think the turnpike is better going west than east (I think the toll is cheaper, also, which is bizarre but I think it is).

Of course it is usually better on Sat/Sunday trafficwise.
