Tours which kind to choose and who from in Philly. HELP!

Hi
I am trying to book any sort of walking tours, ghost tours, Segway etc. I am a person on a budget so I am afraid I will possibly book a tour with a company that is not so great (I did this in Charleston). Please let me know which ones are the best and which to avoid. I may just book a Segway tour but I want the historical information as well. I also heard I should book with a personal tour guide instead any thoughts on this?

Thanks so much!

Why not just get a GOOD guidebook and visit wonderful Philadelphia on your own?

Philly phlash buses are $5 for the day and hit most of the major attractions. Get the guidebook and ride the bus around for an overall view of the city. Don't waste money on a tour.

Go to the Visitor's Center and get your free timed ticket to visit Independence Hall. Depending on the time of your ticket, you can plan to visit the Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Franklin Square, etc. The Historical area is very walkable.

How about a tour of Easter State Penitentiary?
>>Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.

>>Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America’s most notorious criminals, including bank robber “Slick Willie” Sutton and Al Capone.
