Tours in New york City

Has anyone gone on the Beatles tour, other music tours, or any of the movie tours in NYC? I am interested to know if they are tours worth the experience. I will appreciate anyones knowledge of this. Also, my 23 year old son plays piano and guitar. Need to know great places, music stores etc. that he would enjoy experiencing while in NYC.

Can't help on the tours. From reading others' reports, the backstage tour of Lincoln Center is a winner and might interest him. I personally think the Beatles tour wouldn't have enough of interest but I could be wrong.

West 48th between 6th-8th Avenues is nothing but music stores.

8th St at St Marks in the village has lots of used music stores selling all used music in every form. This is where the teens & college kids go.

Big Apple Greeters matches up visitors with volunteer tour guides. Tours are usually about a specific neighborhood, but if you write to them you might be able to work out a more specialized tour. All you need is a volunteer who's a musician.

When you arrive in NYC, purchase a copy of Time Out New York (TONY). It lists all the tours that are going on that week.

Thanks to everyone for their input. The music store info is great. In addition to the musical events; does anyone know about central park tours?

For Central Park Tours take a look at http://www.centralpark.org/ and http://www.bigonion.com/schedule/

Don't count on Apple greeters. I made a request three months in advance for anyone at anytime around the 4th of July holiday and never got a response to any of my messages.
