Tourists in NYC: Avoid 57th-56th street tomorrow morning!

Tourist Alert!

Howard Stern is leaving his show after 20 years. He is throwing a block party that might rival the crowd at Times Square on New Years Eve!
Friday from "Dawn till Noon" the area will be crawling with fans, police, Celebrities, politicians, and probably the MTA workers who will be on strike!

Could be the biggest nightmare or greatest fun...depending on your frame of mind! But it will be a true NYC experience!

You all have been warned!
JOHN

And it's likely to extend beyond the "official" area. Expect large numbers of drunken people.

About 10-12 years ago I used to think Howard Stern was a funny guy.

Now, he's just to predictable; all T&A.

That plus a possible transit strike - what could be more fun!

GoTravel Dec 16th, 2005 05:18 AM

How was the parade?

jorr Dec 16th, 2005 11:20 AM

Amazing how Howard Stern rants and raves about free speech (which I agree with him on) and sells out for $12.95 per month for listeners and a contract worth a hundred million.

GoTravel Dec 16th, 2005 11:23 AM

LOL! jorr, the contract is worth $500 million however, out of that, he has to fund his entire operation. He pays all operating costs, salaries, etc.

Somebody's math is wrong:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6190117/

I’ve decided what my future is,” Stern told his millions of listeners in announcing his five-year, multimillion-dollar contract, which reportedly is worth $100 million. “It’s not this kind of radio any more.”

Whether you think Stern is hugely funny or hugely offensive, Sirius Satellite Radio believes he is worth a whopping $500 million. Sirius will pay Stern $500 million over five years to move his show this January from traditional radio to the still young business of satellite radio.

Beachboi, your article is dated October 6, 2004

jorr Dec 16th, 2005 05:29 PM

I believe GoTravel is right. Stern's contract is worth $500 million over a five year period....minus office and personnel expenses.

It will be a cold day in hell before I pay $12.95 per month plus the cost of a satellite radio receiver and speaker system for something I can get for free on my existing sytem.

Good luck Howard Stern and good bye.

I have listened to HOward for the past 25 years. He was my morming "cup of coffee", although I agree he is not everyone's "cup of tea"!

I will miss his show. Beside the obvious Bathroom Humour, I listen more for his take on rhe everyday events that we read in the papers and hear on the news. He also had a way of getting his "guests" to answer questions that were not taken off a publiscist "safe list".

Yes I will miss his show! But I have not bought into the Serius Network.

But just like when cable TV was in its infancy and asking us to PAY for something we were getting for FREE seemed at the time to be a dumb idea...I might have to move over to sattelite Radio if I find that I am not satisfied by the content of so called "Free radio" Right now at the ripe old age of 53, I find I like to hear more talk than music stations, Damn I even jog to talk radio! What a change!

So pay for Radio? Only time will tell
