Total indecision on Vegas hotel and it's driving me mad!

When we first started planning our trip (about a year ago), and decided on one night only in LV (convenient stopover!), I booked a room in the Signature at MGM Grand. Then I decided it was too far away from where we wanted to be and cancelled it. I booked a room at the Bellagio. Then I decided that was too expensive and I booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express South. Then I decided that was too far!! (You get the picture?!) So I booked a room at Caesars as that is where we would like to spend our time (I thought). On our previous visit (which I disliked intensely, although it was 'interesting' and I wouldn't have missed it), we stayed off-strip at the Flamingo Bay Resort and liked that very much (despite the roaches) - we drove into the Strip and parked up at the Bellagio and 'did' a few of the hotel casinos in that vicinity (we are not gamblers - we just put a few cents in the slots!) - but we missed out on Caesars. However, I discovered a really good room rate at the Palazzo and booked there, cancelling our Caesars room... Now I'm regretting it ... Today, I have searched around and found that EVERY hotel (Wynn, FS, new Trump etc etc etc) are now within our budget - and that, in fact, the Signature is now $149 - when I first booked it, it was around $400!!! I've also been toying with the idea of staying at the Meridian Suites (2 bedrooms and bathrooms + balcony for the same price as the Palazzo) - and, even, the hotels at Lake Las Vegas, as the scenery looks SUPERB. But now there is too much choice and I am getting flustered. I am paranoid that all the LV hotels are *watching* me and are aware that I keep changing hotels and that I might well be banned!!

I'm not asking you to make my decision for me, because everybody will have different opinions - but is there anybody else like this - so full of indecision and just wanting to 'get it right'? It's only for one night, for goodness sake!

OK, maybe I can help, be a voice of reason ( lol - that doesn't sound like me!!)

It is only one night?
Then you want to be ON the Strip, in not the Most expensive hotel but one that appeals to you, central would be good..Caesars is good...although I prefer the Bellagio.

No matter how long you have to do this, you have no way of knowing if you are getting it right..you just have to figure what will suit your needs..which means not off strip, why bother? for one night, you can stay in a beautiful room in a fabulous hotel, shop in the hotel shops, eat in a couple of fun/great restaurants, maybe see a show or play the slots or something..

Remember, this is supposed to be Fun.
You can't make too bad a mistake with the hotels on the Strip..

Good luck..

It's just one night. Choose a moderately-priced hotel and spend the savings on good food or a good show. (Besides, how long will you actually be AWAKE in the room?)

Thanks guys - I had a bit of a panic there - sorry! After a group discussion (just me and hub!) we decided to keep our booking at the Palazzo, as we've paid for the night and the price was reasonable. Shouldn't be too far to walk down to Caesars, Paris etc, should it?
longhorn55, could be awake for a long time in the room if I forget my earplugs and the snorer sleeps on his back!

What was your "really good room rate at the Palazzo"?

Hi Jed
The room rate, including tax, is $287 for a Bella suite (QQ + sofabed), which is a huge improvement on the last time I looked, when it was around $400. A perfect room for us really, as we get a bed for each of the 3 of us. I'm not sure what happens at the other hotels on the Strip, where they offer you 2 queens, whether you would get a rollaway bed or not. So this is safer. And we wanted a little bit of luxury, although some of the TripAdvisor reviews aren't exactly magic!

Wildblueyonder, I know what you're talking about! That's why I like places like Embassy Suites which have separate bedrooms from the living room. I may have to sleep on the couch when my spouse is snoring, but at least I can sleep!

I just checked the Palazzo, for 1 night, the 22nd, for every month for the rest of the year. The prices vary from 229 to 669. Quite amazing.

The suite looks great. Enjoy!

Yep, Jed - quite amazing. However, the latest review for the Palazzo warns about overbooking ... I've a half mind to cancel and rebook off the Strip, because there appears to be problems with most of the Strip hotels! (I'm really tempted by Lake Vegas!)

No matter who wonderful expensive and fabulous a hotel might be, you will read a complaint somewhere about it.

Off strip just wastes time..it all depends on why you are there, if it is to be a part of the Las Vegas Strip thing..walking up and down, in and out of hotels, casinos , restaurants..then being off strip is a waste of time.
For ONE night..just take something that looks good and affordable and get on with the planning.

Or else I will have to come over there and just do it all for you ...

I think that you are overthinking the whole issue a little too much.

The review on TA that mentions the overbooking does not mention what their dates were...was there a big convention in town? a busy weekend? etc...

Based on the rate you said, I would suspect that they are not even close to being sold out.

LOL, Scarlett! Perhaps you should pack your bags tonight, as the weather's really good here at the moment, but forecast to change!
Yes, of course, you're right and I'm fed up with reading all the reviews! We've been to Vegas before and did the in and out of hotels stuff - but we missed Caesars and would like to have a look around there. This begs the question, 'why not stay there?', which I might yet! (I don't like Vegas one bit and would be much happier at the Lake!)

Thanks milemarker - what you say makes perfect sense. I've become paranoid.

wildblueyonder,

here's my advice. keep your reservation and don't think about it again. first, remember that reviews you see are almost always from a negative experience. most people, unless it was a super out of this world positive experience, do not post a review - only the angry ones with bad experiences mostly do.

second, you can rethink this until you're blue in the face but you are only going to drive yourself nuts and already put a negative note on your trip.

Any "thing" including the reservation can go wrong but you can't keep second guessing yourself. my wise boss told me about me worrying about my wedding flowers "they're only flowers" and she's right. once i stopped worrying about them, i had this thought that if it's not exactly what i wanted, they are just flowers after all and when my wedding day came and the bouquet wasn't exactly what I expected, it rolled off my back and I was able to really enjoy my wedding day stress free (we got married in yosemite so no advance checking of things - I met the minister that morning!)

You have one night in Vegas. Cover the basics. You want to be close to everything so you can just walk there and it's convenient. If the Palazzo ends up to be too far, take the double decker bus or any of the trams available between hotels.

Have fun!

Thanks maria - wise words!
Yosemite! What a wonderful place to get married!
(I've always left reviews on TA - good and bad - although my bad ones haven't been angry bad ones, more like 'what kind of place is this; you decide' - type ones! I mean, what can you say about a place where there are no indoor windows and the toilet seat is foam which squashes down and squeaks when you sit on it!! I think I only left 2 stars for the hotel in Pacifica we stayed at - beautiful setting, but lacking any soul at all).

eeeeeewwww! foam toilet seats. imagine all the yucky bacteria that harbors! ;-) I only tend to post reviews when the place has really upset me so I'm one of those reviewers....

it was a superb and ideal place for a wedding. we had a really nice day.

maria, it was a terrible place to be honest - but I didn't like to be too unkind! The hotel had been 'in the family' for years, but the daughter had left and mother and father had had to stand in - and neither were fit enough. They were trying to sell it, but no offers. Father had cancer - we know because he kept cornering us and telling us about his symptoms and his chemotherapy. I won't tell you where it was, as that wouldn't be fair of me - but it was in Montana somewhere and the Missouri was just outside the door!

yeah, in that situtation I don't know if I would've posted at all either. i'm usually quite good about understanding. it's those circumstances where they are adamant there was nothing wrong that usually gets me riled up.

sad case. i hope it worked out ok in the end. i work for a cancer hospital and really empathize with the patients and their family.

I stayed at Palazzo in March and its great. keep your reservation! stay on the Strip in a nice hotel, enjoy the karma. the Palazzo has very nice suites & easy walk to Venetian and all it has to offer. Wynn is across the street too & so is Fashion Show mall (my favorite destination!)

i tend to over-analyze too, i'm heading to Italy, Greece, Turkey & France in June for 3 weeks...i have no idea what i'm even going to see there! normally i would be wildly researching every nook & cranny, but i'm winging it this time! taking my 15 yr. old daugther, she will know more than me about the history. enjoy!!!!

OK, randknew - will keep the reservation (and blame you if it all goes wrong <grin>) The room is ideal for us.
Italy and France I know well and you will have a most wonderful time! Greece and Turkey, I've never been to, but it all looks most beautiful - enjoy! In France and Italy, don't just do the tourist spots and the history - there is so much more! Get lost in Venice, drive through the vineyards in France. Eat pizza!! Italy is the only place where I've tasted pizza as I think pizza should be tasted - I won't eat it anywhere else!
