Toronto & Montreal in April - What to do?

We (my family) are spending 4 days in Toronto and 3 days in Montreal during spring break (4/4 -4/12). First time visitors, need all kind of advice.

Juan: You didn't give the ages of your family, but here are some thoughts from one who was in both cities last fall. Unless you want to drive to Niagara Falls, you don't need a car. Both Montreal and Toronto have excellent public transit, and VIA Rail can take you between the two cities in about five hours. In Toronto, we liked the Royal Ontario Museum and Hockey Hall of Fame; CN Tower and Toronto Islands were OK. In Montreal, we saw the Canadiens play hockey and the Botanical Gardens; Notre Dame Basilica, Eaton Centre and Mount Royal Park. Enjoy!

First of all, there is a wealth of information right here in the Fodor's site. Next, go to your loal bookstore and purchase every tour guide there for these destinations. Each and every one will have valuable and essential information and is well worth the price of the book. Since you are going to spend money, you may as well do it wisely. After years and years of travelling, I have learned that the more you research and plan before you leave (and it's great fun) the better the experience. Your time is your most valuable commodity. Before, during, after. You have not even mentioned your preferences. But, by doing some research on your own, you're sure to find more appealing possibilities that you could ever hope to fit in to your limited time in each of these incredible destinations. Which means, you'll want to go back. SO, while there, be sure to scope out hotels and restaurants and pick up all the tourist brochures and information for future reference.

You didn't mention the ages of your kids but also in
Toronto is the Ontario Science Centre which is great
for kids of all ages really. If you want to see Niagara Falls there are daytrips by bus from downtown Toronto. It is very touristy but the Falls are spectacular if you haven't been. Because there is now a casino in N.F. it is best to visit in the week if you can. One advantage of visiting in Apr. is that there will be fewer tourists. If shopping is on the agenda visit the Eaton Centre or even if your not buying it is worth a look. Centre Island is a great place, just a short ferry ride from the bottom of Yonge St. but you'll have to consider the weather in Apr. As mentioned by others, the Hockey Hall of Fame, CN Tower, Skydome etc. are all good choices. Enjoy!!
