Topsail Beach NC vs Pawley's Island SC

Anyone been to both Topsail Beach NC and Pawley's Island SC ? Which did you prefer and why?

We're going to one or the other this summer. We're NOT into shopping, amusement parks, putt-putt and all that. We want a place for swimming, sunning, beachcombing, and eating good (but not fancy) seafood.

So which place would you recommend?

Thanks!

We own at Litchfield by the Sea which is on the mainland at Pawley's and of course, love it. Pawley's Island beach is totally CHARMING and historic. Love it.
You can't get better or more seafood restaurants than just north of Pawley's in Murrell's Inlet, or on the highway in mainland Pawley's. Easily 25 topnotch places to choose from and many many more yet to be tried.

Pawleys Island!

No contest. Pawleys is one of the oldest settled barrier islands in the country.

There are no businesses on the island except for three B&Bs that were grandfathered in.

Thanks to both of you for your help. One more question: we won't be staying right on the beach on Pawley's but want to go to the beach. Is there public access to the beaches?

(Stupid Yankee question.)

Thanks!

Yes, down at the south end. But why not stay in Litchfield and just go to the beach. Look at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort site.

Actually Gretchen, there are public beach accesses all over Pawleys Island and not just on the south end.

Benishek, you will not have any problems with public beach access on Pawleys.

Aside from the southern tip, there are beach access at Atlantic Avenue at Hazard, First, Pearce, Second and Third streets, and at Shell Road.
