Topless in Key West
I know that beaches are not legally topless, but I was wondering what hotels are legitimately topless in Key West. Any advice or experiences?
Thanks for your help. |
Are you gay or straight? Male or female?
Well, presumably men can be topless anywhere. And gay men won;t care if the women are topless. So I'm assuming a straight couple (i hop not just straight guy looking to gawk - the property link doesn;t look like it would encourage gawkers.)
You may hope so, but only the OP can clarify.
Personally, I think you are wrong on the gay men comment. ;) |
There are several accomodations in the Small Inn category that have clothing optional areas... when we stayed at the Chelsea House (great place) there was a separate area for total male and female nudity... I found out when we asked to check-out some room choices and entered the room overlooking the Nude deck... there was an elderly nude man (i think it was a man) in front of the window... we passed on that room... I would check with the Chamber on other Inns with similar options....

The Heron House has an area that's topless. I think Marrero's Guest House pool is clothing-optional. There's a rooftop bar above the Bull and Whistle on Duval called the Garden of Eden that's clothing-optional.
There are a lot of top and clothing-optional places in Key West. You might check the Innkeepers Association for further information. http://www.keywestinns.com/ |
My experience in Key West is that it really helps if you have a good reason to be topless or bottomless; some folks haven't figured out yet that a little "mystery" is a lot more appealing than revealing the sad truth.

We were in Key West 2 years ago during Fantasy Fest and there were more than a few topless females on Duval at night. Generally, they were painted.
Key West is very tolerant of the female breast. Don't they even have a painting of the breasts contest?
The rules in effect during Fantasy Fest are NOT in effect the rest of the year.
During that time, there's a limited area of Duval that accepts body painting, but people have to be clothed below the waist. That's not to say there aren't the occasional people who go further than that, but if they push it too far, they can be jailed. |
I have no opinion on this subject whatsoever, except that I'm pretty sure that it will be the most viewed topic on the United States board today.
There are oft-times females enjoying the waters of Bahai Honda sans tops quite often as well.
Also the top of the Bull & Whistle has a clothing optional 3rd Floor called the Garden of Eden.
There are a few clothing optional sails out of Key West. One, the Blu Q for men, and there is one for mixed couples which I forget.

So it's been quite a while since I posted (a hectic few weeks). My girlfriend and I are going down to Key West and she would like to go topless, but doesn't want a bunch of gawkers, etc. She's never done it, but figures this would be a good place to try. So I hope that helps.
The Garden of Eden would be the best place to try.
The Pilot House also has a unit/efficiency on the top w/its own sun bathing area if she wants privacy. I don't recall ever seeing anyone topless @ the Heron House.
SA - I haven't heard anything about it in years, but I think it's a rooftop.
It is, they have a pool area & a designated 'sunbathing area' upstairs.
We used to stay at Marrero's. Lots of nudity around the pool, but, not everyone. We stayed there because we like the location. We quit staying there because it was tough to find a lounger, the people who came there to be nude, tended to stay around the pool all day and be nude.
Does anyone know about The Inn at Key West? That's a possibility for where we might stay.
Groovin - the Inn at Key West gets nice reviews, especially for the pool area. However, the location is lousy. It's on Roosevelt, which is the busiest street in Key West and is filled with strip malls and fast food joints. The benefit of a reasonable price is lost by the inconvenient location.
If you stay in Old Town, everything you want to do, including sunset celebrations, great restaurants, water sports and tourist activities will be within walking distance. Here's a map that'll show you the location of lodging in Key West. The Inn at Key West is in New Town (marked by red) on Roosevelt. http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/ke...hotel-map.html |
