Top Winter Destinations For Canadians - Any others to consider?

I'm thinking of taking a trip this Winter but I'm not sure where. I'm hoping to get a last minute deal. I've never done that before so hopefully I get lucky with something. I can't decide where I should go. I noticed that Flightnetwork.com recently put out a story on the Top 14 Winter Destinations for Canadians: http://www.flightnetwork.com/blog/to...ons-canadians/

I'm looking into a few on this list, which was helpful but are there any other places that are affordable and great places to go as a Winter getaway?

Thanks

What are "you" looking for - warmth? beach? city life [even if cold]?

San Francisco is great, lots to see and do but it could be cool and rainy.

New Mexico is sunny with blue skies and abundant sun but will be cool to cold with possible snow, depending on where you head [assuming it would be Albuquerque, Santa Fe or Taos].

The destinations in Florida "should" be warm, but later in winter tends to be better chances for warm weather. We have been in South FL during Christmas and frozen our butts off. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

If you want more guarantee of warm beach weather, need to look in Caribbean, Mexico or Hawaii.

My cousin from Washington state winters in Yuma, Arizona. Lots of Canadians there as well. It's certainly warm enough, although really a bit too arid for my tastes. There are a few casinos, and of course Algodones (Mexico) is close by, a big draw for medical services, pharmacies, cheap liquor, and souvenirs.

We visited her a couple of years ago, and enjoyed touring the Yuma Territorial Prison (historic, museum site) and taking a dinner boat cruise on a sternwheeler.

I probably should have mentioned Orlando, Florida, since that is where I live. Our town fills up with Canadian "snowbirds" in the winter. In addition to Disney and other theme parks, mild weather, and being centrally located between the Gulf and Atlantic beaches, fishing is a big draw.

NYC is affordable in Jan and Dec - but not much warmer than where you are. In DEc it's glorious - with all the holiday stuff - but you would have to mortgage your house.

If you come to Southern California - be sure to include a few days in San Diego - and if for some reason it's not sunny and 70 - drive a couple hours to Palm Springs/Palm Desert and it will be toasty. :)

MY Q: Why doesn't this post include California under the various destinations?

It sort of looks like the OP registered to tout the website . . .

Avoid Boston. We freeze right along with you! (Caribbean is always nice tho!)

Best possibilities: Tucson or Phoenix area, Arizona; Palm Springs, California; Sarasota or Naples, Florida; Hawaiian Islands.

South Texas is also a popular winter destination for Canadians and people in the U.S. from the North.
