We have just returned from Denver where we had a superb dinner at Barolo Grill.
We had a tough decision to make. There were several places that interested us, and many were closed on Sunday and Monday. That left Tuesday for our big night.
We chose Barolo Grill because of reviews on the Chowhound Board, and because it rated 3rd most popular in the Zagat Guide, and most popular with people over 50, which we are. That was kind of funny, because we were probably the only people there over 50!
We had appetizers, pasta, entree and dessert, and everything was outstanding. You can order half orders, and even quarter orders - I had a quarter order of pasta so that I could taste it. (My husband's pappardelle with pheasant was incredible!)
Although it was a Tuesday, the place was packed. Service was excellent.
So my vote is for Barolo Grill.
The other nights we had very good fish and seafood at Jax, and a fun casual dinner at one of the brew pubs.
Enjoy!

Sylvia in Philadelphia

An update on Vesta--we were in Denver this weekend and tried to make reservations there. In the past haven't had any trouble making reservations the day before--not anymore. The person I talked with said they're booking 10 days in advance now. Guess the word is out. On the plus side we found a fun new place right off the 16th Street Mall. It's called La Fondue--pricey but good. Evidently it's been in business about 2 years. I'll definitely go back again.

I forgot to mention that Barolo Grill also headed the NY Times list of restaurants in their recent "What's Doing in Denver" article.
I wish we had had the time to go to some of the other places people like!

Turly,
The Broker, already mentioned, is a chain restaurant (although perhaps a chain unique to Denver), as is the Chop House (also mentioned above). Both are excellent. Yia Yia's European Cafe in the Denver Tech Center is also a chain restaurant, and has consistently excellent food. Gallaghers (a steak house) is also a chain restaurant. I've eaten at the one in New York (but not in Denver), but my son says that the steak he got at the Denver restaurant was the best he's ever had.
For non-chain restaurants, try Chez Walter, at Orchard and University, southwest of town.

Del Frescos was mentioned above. My experience there was not good; the food was mediocre to poor, and the prices were way too high.
If you're into high end steak houses, Brooks is a far better choice.

Connie:
You guys sound awesome! What fun you must have! Since you said $$$ is not an issue, everyone is going upscale. If you'd like to try some cheapo places with awesome food and atmosphere, try out My Brothers Bar and the Wazee Supper Club. The former is for burgers, the latter is for pizza, and both are as anti-chain as they come. Have fun!

I would recommend Vesta Dipping Grill--the food is very good and the ambiance and concept is alot of fun! I was there in July and made reservations via the website the week before. Try and see if this is still a possibility.
