Toothbrushes & TSA, post 9/26/06
 

I've looked at 3 different travel sites/forums AND the TSA site itself and for the life of me can't find what to do with your toothbrush! Wife is traveling domestic tomorrow for 5 days, no checked bag, just carry-on. Our family of 4 is doing Europe in 2 mos. for 2 weeks and WILL obviously have both, checked and carry-on. Where's the toothbrush go now since the TSA changes on 9/26/06? There's nothing on the TSA site, in writing OR on the "3-1-1" picture of the zip-lock bag, saying you can put it in there. Can you put it in the zip-lock bag or just anywhere in your carry-on? Sounds like a little thing, but we're really curious! LOL Thanks fellow travelers, Mark

There is no restriction on TOOTHBRUSH, just on toothpaste. Toothpaste must be 3 0z or less and in clear 1 QUART ZIPLOCK baggie. Do not waste space in bag for toothbrush. Save it for the restriced items.

Toothbrush can go anyplace you want it to go. I've traveled several times since the ziplock rules and have put my toothbrush in my carryon everytime (not in the ziplock). Never had a problem. If you take anything more then one of those tiny 3.5 tubes of toothpaste that must go into your checked luggage tho. I certainly imagine you will need more then a tiny tube of toothpaste for 2 weeks, so just put a regular size tube(s) in your checked bags.

Therre are a thousand things that travelers might carry, that aren't on the TSA site. Since there's no possible threat from a toothbrush, there's no need to cateogrize it. The ziplock is about liquids and gels, not about personal care.

My husband just got back from Dallas yesterday. He was allowed a 3.4 oz tube of toothpaste on board.

A couple of weeks ago, they had made him throw it out. Apparently, TSA told him they were relaxing the rules only pertaining to toothpaste.

All fluid restriction has been relaxed to 100ml or 3.4 fl oz.

Oh I should say that <b>in practice</b>, they are allowing 100ml or 3.4oz, but of course, if you read TSA's website, it still says 3oz. Ambiguity is their philosophy.

Brings to mind several interesting visual images. Mad mmich929 running down the aisle with toothbrush in hand, feigning to rub out the FA with said brush. Eyes aglow and toothpaste dripping from his glaring fangs...

What about those &quot;prison&quot; movies and/or tv shows where the toothbrushes are sharpened and used as a weapon?

Here's a cheap way to reuse those toothpaste tubes. Save landfill space and a buck!
