Our family of five stayed at Cowboy Village Resort in Jackson about 5 years ago. Not sure what you consider to be expensive, but it was really roomy.

I don't know what sleeping bag rentals cost, but you can buy a "Bed in a Bag" for about $50.

Have a great time in Yellowstone! It is a wonderful place to take your children, and you will have plenty to do during the week.
