Too many San Fran Hotels!

Everytime I think I've narrowed it down, I read another suggestion that sounds even better! HELP!! Two adults, first trip to SF, last week in March, six nights, no car (may rent one for a day or two for out of the city exploring), definitely interested in Union Square area hotels. Villa Florence, Hotel Triton, Hotel Milano, and Hotel Rex all look good--right price, location, etc. Your choice of the four? Or another suggestion to further confuse me?

Hi SLKB, I always stay at the Villa Florence. Love the location (one half block on Powell down from Union Square), great staff, wine in fun and beautiful lobby at 5:00pm. Rooms not huge but have never had one too small.

But would imagine you could not miss with any of these hotels. Maybe just toss a coin? ;;) Have a fun trip!

I like the Villa Florence. They have decent rooms. The location is great too. It is very quaint with a very friendly staff.

Any of the four hotels would probably satisfy your needs as they are all about equal. You might just want to go with the best price. If I personally had to choose, I would probably pick the Hotel Rex, but that just a personal opinion. You should check out the reviews of each of the hotels on tripadvisor.com. Finally, another Union Square area hotel you might want to consider is the Crowne Plaza. It is equally convenient to the area, the rooms are nice, and sometimes you can get some really great rates there.

I haven't stayed at any of the other places on your short list, but I will tell you that my wife and I stay at the Triton almost every trip we make....we love it.

I've stayed at both the Triton and the Villa Florence. The Triton is great for a fun girls weekend and the Villa Florence is a little more romantic. The Villa Florence has a great location and Kuleto's is the hotel's restaurant, but the Triton has a fun party feel.

I was in the Hotel Milano a few years back and it was quite nice and a good value, but the area is somewhat seedy. I'd try and stay a bit West of there, closer to Union Square proper. Villa Florence or Rex both look like a better location to me.

I like the Villa Florence since it has Keuleto's downstairs!

Also check out hotelres.com since it is connected with the SF Conference and Vistors assoc...they have great rates and good comparisons of the hotels.

We use priceline if we don't want a certain hotel, otherwise hotelres.com has always been great...

Of the four, I'm partial to the Triton for location. You are right at the Bush Street gate to Chinatown, so it's picturesque. You have Belden Lane with all its restaurants a block away. Union Square is close but not jarringly so. North Beach a 20-minute walk away.
Lots of transit options in the neighborhood too.
